It’s Sunday, and time for Weekend Writing Warriors again (click the logo above for links to other authors) and Snippet Sunday (click the logo below.)
I’m continuing from last week with Rescue Operation. Emeraude has just suggested that Roi contact his three supporters who were off planet at the time of the vote. Roi is the first to speak.

“Already planned on that, Audi. If it had been ten to ten with Zhaim breaking the tie, or if fewer than twenty had voted, I might be able to challenge it. As it is — I’m sure going to try, but I’m afraid it may take a vote for reconsideration. Over two-thirds of the Council. And I’m not sure I can get it, at least not right away.”
Keishala sighed as she picked up her music tablet. “Come on, Lani. If you’re going to finish that before the concert, we’d better go somewhere else. If it’s going to be politics, neither of us is going to be much help.”
I’m pre-scheduling the post for next weekend, but I won’t be here. I’m attending the Alaska Writers’ Guild Conference in Anchorage, so my comments will be late. I’ve also sent the summary and first ten pages of Rescue Operation for critique at the conference. Wish me luck!

Looks like Roi has his work cut out for him. It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out. Good luck at the conference- and have fun!
So far this is just the setup.
Have fun at the conference, Sue Ann!
I’m interested in the variety of spouses Roi has accumulated. I was a bit startled at the disinterest of a few of them had about this situation, at first, but naturally, Roi has other interests, too, and partners don’t have to share everything. Very well done, as usual! 🙂
Remember he’s a couple of hundred years old, and none of his spouses have lived more than a normal human life span. Lelani is actually well into her 70’s. He’s outlived more than one of his wives; some have stayed with him while others could not take growing old while he stayed young and left — with his sad blessing.
Have fun and good luck! Poor Roi (seems I’m always saying that…mean author 🙂
Aren’t we all mean authors?
Trouble ahead and Roi has to resolve, as always. Safe and happy journey, my friend.
I don’t make it easy for him.
Politics just stinks. All the games and underhanded ploys…
Roi is so concerned about Zhaim, but it owuld seem he has a frustrating battle ahead of him. I like Roi’s determination more and more.
Good luck with the conference – hope you enjoy immensely!
Frustrating and long term.
Politics gets in the way again.
But, it’s not what you know…
Kudos!
And Roi’s weakness is he’s too honorable to play the politics game.
Sounds like a complicated balancing act to juggle with…
Especially when he doesn’t know who all Zhaim’s cronies are.
I can’t wait to see how this plays out. Oh Roi, you do have a lot to deal with.
Going to take quite a while.
He’s been outmaneuvered. That growing realization makes for great tension.
Yes. And in some ways the worst is to come.
Good snippet, and I wish you lots of luck at your writers’ conference. I too will be at a conference next weekend and may be late to respond. I’m going to the Midsouth SCBWI Conference in Nashville. I bet your weather will be more comfortable in Anchorage.

Ha! The forecast is for highs in the 50’s and rain all week. At least Fairbanks is finally dry.
I hope you have a great conference and get positive feedback.
Another strong exchange. My only suggestion would be not to call her Audi. I instantly went to the car brand. Quite possible it’s just me, but I wanted to call it out.
When I named her I’d never heard of the car brand. Just seemed a nice nickname for Emeraude. (D0n’t know why, but I retrieved this from the spam folder.)
Politics are politics no matter where you go. Have fun at the conference. I think they’ll like your sample.
There’s more than politics coming, but the politics are behind most of it.
Enjoy the conference! I hope the critique will be useful stuff…loving all the backstory about Roi and his wives. The politics are very well crafted, but I’d expect nothing less from you! Great excerpt.
I just hope the medical stuff doesn’t have me depressed all weekend.
Seems to be getting more and more deeply political. I’d not be much help with that either. 🙂 Nice snippet!
Politics are behind the problem, but it’s going to get a more human face soon.
Nice snippet Sue! Have a great time at the conference 🙂
Thanks. Glad you like it.
Interesting snippet today. Nice to know politics are at work in all worlds. Have a safe journey and fantastic experience at the conference.
Well, even chimpanzees are political, so it’s not too large a stretch.
I really enjoyed this conversation–it really brings the characters to life. I like that they don’t sugarcoat anything and I love that they’re realistic. It makes me want to root for them even more! If only the vote had went differently…
Great snippet!
Keep smiling,
Yawatta
Sometimes conversation is the best way to let the characters show themselves.
Everyone has their strengths. It seems that Keishala and Lani know that politics is not either of theirs. 🙂
Right. Keishala is a singer and has great clothes sense, but she doesn’t know or care much about social issues. Lelani is an artist and craftsman, getting to the point where she’s bordering on senility, but still a great designer. Emeraude is an ambassador’s daughter who studies social structure in relation with planetary geographical factors.
