I did get out to Ice Alaska today, and took a few photos. I got a little video of the artists working, too. I’ll use that in the iMovie course I’m taking next month. Meanwhile, here are some pictures of the kids’ park. Click on the photos to enlarge.

Great pictures! How do they carve them? With chainsaws/
I took some videos of the early stages in the competition carving, which used chainsaws, drills, big chisels, ice picks, and anything else that works. I’m taking a course in iMovie starting March 3 and hope to put the videos together to make a movie of carving techniques and learn how to post it to YouTube, from where I know how to put it on the blog. Right now the sound effects are chain saws and the rather loud music they play over the loudspeakers at the park.
Very cool. I would like to see that!
Wow. Just beautiful. And a beautiful day too.
Thanks for sharing.

There’ll be more. The ice park and the competitions run through most of March.
Sue Ann, those are GORGEOUS! I remember seeing a snow sculpting contest in Park City, Utah, with some pretty nice work, but ice has that extra sparkle, doesn’t it? I wish I was a kid so I could get into that train!

Got pictures of all the single-block sculptures today. They should be announcing the winners tonight. I think next Tuesday is the first day I don’t already have something lined up, so I’ll probably post the winners then.I hope I can get some night photos with the colored lights on them.
