Welcome to WeWriWa (click on the logo above) and Snippet Sunday (click on the logo below.) It’s time again for 8 sentences from one of my works, and not just mine: there are a number of writers on each list. This weekend Horse Power is free, so I decided to continue the stampede and bicycle, putting in bits (in order but not necessarily contiguous) until the problem is clear. Oh, and did I say the story is free today on Amazon? Grab a copy, and consider a review!
“That,” [Amber] told [Roi], “is probably the exploitation the Council heard about. Only I suspect it’s perfectly legal. The Company controls most of the shipping, and they only bring in things they can sell for Confederation credits, not for the barter we normally use. The only herding vehicles they import use fossil fuel. I suppose they could be modified to run on alcohol, but the manufacture or importation of alcohol is illegal. That leaves us totally dependent on imports of fossil fuel. This is a terraformed planet. There isn’t any fossil fuel, beyond some methane clathrates that we don’t have the equipment to mine.”
News: I now know that this chemo leaves me feeling only a little off for the day after, and then flattens me for the next four days. This is day 3 of round 2, so don’t expect much in comments). I’ve pretty well lost my hair. But its bearable (if enervating) for the second and third week of a cycle. I have the editing on Rescue Operation finished, though I still need to stitch the short chapters together and do some global search and replace changes to keep the spelling consistent.. Anyone interested in a beta read?
Final question: I’ve always been very conservative about hair color. Should I try a wig in a completely new color while I’m bald? Or maybe even a photo gallery of various styles?
Nice eight. As for hair color, I think you should try something new and fun. Go a little crazy : )
Those in power always want to preserve the status quo. As to the wigs, it will probably be Friday before I feel up to trying anything.
Another quandary to face, they are not having it easy at the moment!
But if there were no quandries, there would be no story.
Hi Sue, at least the nasty chemo isn’t affecting your creativity and drive to finish books! I love your spirit and I think a photo gallery of various styles would be fantastic! Something different, for sure… just for an extra kick against the disease, I think would be great!
Probably next Friday before I’m up to trying the wigs–thought I could do it while getting infused last Friday, but the pre-meds put me to sleep. I do have photos of the three possible head covers I have, but I thought a wig would be fun for when I’m up to selling at the farmers market again.
Oh I vote for trying something new, especially if the idea appeals to you! Enjoyed the snippet always…your worlds are so well grounded in fact, which makes it easy to lose myself in the story.
A lifetime in geophysics gives good grounding for planet-building.
Great details in your eight.
I know a lot of religious married women who have to wear wigs, and they tend to choose something close to their natural hair color. But if you want to try out a new hair color, by all means do. It can be fun to try on a new personality for a little while.
It’s just for a little while and mostly for the Book-selling booth. Maybe for the cousins’ reunion in October, though most will realize what I’m doing, and I don’t know if my own hair won’t be growing out by then. Right now I look like a balding man with a few strands of hair combed over his head.
I’m all for trying something new and different. Give the wigs a try. I know many for cancer patients are made from real human hair from donations.
I always enjoy your snippets. This one from “Horse Power” is coming to my favorite part. I’m looking forward to being able to buy the first two books. I’d volunteer to beta read, but I don’t want to spoil a good read or be confused by information referring back to the others.
The e-book price for Homecoming on Amazon is OK, but I can’t seem to convince them that Tourist Trap is way overpriced compared with Barnes and Noble or the publisher. POD is expensive, though.
I know what you mean. Kind of why I’m leery of letting Amazon sell any future books of mine if they won’t listen to other authors.
I always love your world-building—you manage to weave so many things together so neatly. Anne McCaffrey could do that, too . . .
(I say try on all the wigs you can stand and have fun with it)
Thank you–Anne McCaffrey is one of my major influences, though the world-building comes partly from being a geophysicist.
Great snippet. As for the wig, I think you should try a bold new color.
Don’t think they have any really wild colors, but I’ll try what they have when the immediate effect (collapse for 3 days) wears off. Maybe Friday.
Sue Ann, you are one spunky woman. Keep writing, go blond, and continue to be an inspiration to all of us.
I think stubborn is more like it.
Of course the people in power arrange things for their benefit!
Hope you feel well enough to get some sassy wigs soon.
Don’t they always? That’s what I like about my R’il’nai.
Great snippet. Love the world-building…as for the wigs, I’d go with … all! And show us the pics. =)
After Friday. I expect to spend the next few days in bed.
Enjoyed the snippet as usual. As for the wig– I would try something new and fun. There are so many great wig styles out there now.
Since it’s short-term, I was planning to stick with what the local cancer society has, which is a pretty limited assortment. But it should still be fun.
Great snippet! Sending you all the hugs. For the hair color…new and exciting! 😉
