This finishes the 2013 blogathon, and I certainly hope I never wind up doing another from a hospital bed! I’m reasonably perky right now aside from water retention, but I’ll be starting chemo in a couple of weeks so no promises about visiting once that starts! First priority is going to go to editing Rescue Operation.
I’m choosing sentences from near the end of the chapter I’m blogging from War’s End, continuing on from last week. Next week will be Horse Power again, as it will be free again next weekend; then a final snippet from War’s end. After that? I think I’ll go back and pull bits from my published works. For right now, Coralie is speaking.
“And what Kelty said about Michelle trying to take us to a ‘safe’ place—that feels right, too.”
“What about having the dog and Kelty scout for a better spot for a permanent camp tomorrow?”
“Can the dog warn me of vegetation it isn’t safe to touch?” asked Kelty. “I’m not a wilderness explorer type! The best at that would probably be Coralie, but she obviously can’t right now.”
Coralie looked over at Bounce, who was sprawled on her side sound asleep, and then out at the rain and the dense vegetation, barely visible in the light of the fire they had built. “It might work better if I sent her out by herself first, with the order to look for a safe place. I can see through her eyes a little, so I’ll have some idea of what she finds.”

They really need a permanent camp so any suggestion is good!
Generating ideas is an important part of problem solving.
Intriguing! They have such challenges but are always so resourceful. I like that! Best wishes to you, sounds like you’re having your own challenges – sending a mental hug.
In a way they’re a picked group, all chosen by the baby’s father — but he had no idea they’d face this!
You have great dialogue here, I want to know what happens next!
Thanks; I just write what I hear. Sorry I won’t be going much farther with this in WWW, but I need to get the first of the trilogy edited and out. (This is the third.)
What a great snippet! Lots of action/planning and great dialogue.
Hugs and prayers for your health.
Thanks. Hope I can do as well with snippets from Homecoming and Tourist Trap.
It’s intriguing to hear one character say she can see a little bit through someone else’s eyes… very good build up of tension!
Especially when the someone else is a dog.
Interesting snippet. New to WeWriWa this weekend, so this makes me curious about the story, where they are, how they can see through the dog’s eyes.
Earlier episodes (this is almost the end of a chapter) can be found in the index.
I want a Bounce! And Coralie’s abilities (or are they Bounce’s?) would be useful to have, even in our neighborhood. 🙂
The pocket herder breed (my own invention, though based on my first Sheltie) have some esper talents and can share their sensations with humans with latent esper abilities (such as Coralie.) Bounce is just coming into her abilities, though several other dogs of the breed are in the trilogy.
Very visual. I can’t imagine how weary they must be, but there will be no real rest until they find a permanent camp. I wonder though, will they find a safe place to put down stakes. Great story, Sue Ann. I’m a bit confused about Rescue Operation. Are you int he editing stage, or is it published? And if it is available and it’s free next weekend, if you tweet me @teresa_cypher, I will retweet it for you. 🙂 ! Have a good week, Sue Ann. 🙂
There are two groups of books, both set in the Jarnian Confederation, but a couple of hundred years apart. Homecoming and Tourist Trap (all formats), together with Horse Power (Kindle only) are the first group, and Horse Power will be available free next weekend. Amber and Timi (in all of these three books) are remote ancestors of Coralie. Roi (who is non-aging) is the protagonist in both groups: in the first he is growing up, in the second mature. Homecoming is intended to start about the time of George Washington’s birth, but Earth events are not part of the story.
The second group is set over 200 years later, in our own time with some relationship to earth events. There are three connected book: Rescue Operation, Horizon War (but I want to use that title for the trilogy as a whole so it will be changed) and War’s End. All three title are subject to change. They are written and the first, Rescue Operation, is currently with my editor. It needed more of a story arc, but I think that will be less of a problem with the other two.
I love the idea of seeing though the dog’s eyes–wow! Great snippet, Sue Ann!
She has already, when she was trying to find the others.
Great snippet. I can sense their weariness.
Re your health: So sorry your having a rough go of it lately. Prayers for health coming your. Do stay strong. 🙂
I’m actually feeling fairly well right now, two weeks after surgery. I’m not looking forward to chemo in a couple more weeks, though. I hope they’re right and it’s just precautionary.
Such an interesting world you’ve created! I really enjoy the special connection your characters have with the dogs:)
There were times I was convinced Derry read my mind, but it was one way.
Coralie seems to have a great connection with her dog.
They’re a pretty special breed.
Yes, I can see that it’s able to do some many things for her.
At least they’re working together to find a way, talking about who is best at what and how to use it. They’re resourceful.
They’re all thinking survival first.
