We have puddles again! I know, that hardly sounds like reason for celebration, but after one of the coldest Aprils I can remember, seeing liquid water outdoors again is a delightful change. The snow is starting to drip off the roof, the snow in the back yard has settled a couple of inches, and I actually saw puddles yesterday.

The first was on a white ice road. Not my road, that’s still white and solid. But I was so overwhelmed by this, coming out of lunch, that I snapped a picture.

The Safeway lot actually had a fairly deep puddle — up to the hubcaps of passing cars. The low spots have drains in the summer, but this time of year drains and culverts are frozen solid. The steam truck will be out soon — another sign of spring.
