Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, a blog ring of authors posting snippets from their work. To get the list of participants with links to their blogs, click on the logo above. This post is also listed on the Snippet Sunday Facebook list, available via a click on the logo at the bottom of this post. I was going to put it on Skye Warren’s Write Club, heance only six sentences, but I can’t find the list for April 7.
I’m still posting from War’s End, and Kelty has just remarked that Coralie obviously knows the most about wilderness survival, while Ginger is a doctor and Audi knows the most about Maungs. He continues:
“Neither astrogation nor piloting’s likely to help us here, so I’m grunt labor. Any specialist knowledge I’m missing?”
“Red’s a spice trader,” Audi said. “She says she might be of some use lifting things—this is low gravity for her—but she doesn’t know anything about surviving on the planet except how to recognize some of the botanicals, and she’s not feeling very well. She’s been a prisoner for some time. Madame Irela?”
At least they’re cooperating with each other! But what can a diplomat do?
Hopefully between them they’ll have the skills to survive, nice eight!
At least for a while.
That’s what they’re trying to figure out.
Complex situation here. Get them out. Good eight.
More complex than appears here.
Never underestimate a diplomat, I’m guessing! And the challenges continue…terrific snippet!
Glad you like it.
Kelty is still my favorite—love a man who doesn’t let ego get in the way!
Kelty’s actually a fairly minor character. Besides, he’s outnumbered!
I always root for the underdog, too . . . 🙂
Not sure who they’re under, yet.
This sounds like a complicated situation.
That it is. And they still don’t know how they got there.
That it is.
They have a good skill set. I’m sure they’ll find a use for the diplomat, even if it’s just more help with the “grunt labour”. I hope they have the skills to survive.
Tune in next week.
Survival 101–assess everything you’ve got that could possibly help survival. Excellent snippet, SueAnn!
We get survival hints on TV all the time–mostly aimed at problems in Alaska.
I don’t know, botanical identification when in a bad situation actually seems like it would be a really useful skill to have, eating snapdragons or a poisonous mushroom wouldn’t do them much good. Great snippet.
They have a lot of information in the reader, but recognizing things from just pictures and descriptions isn’t always easy. Especially local plants that could serve medicinal purposes.
Very nice #8 – great character reveal/development – and hopefully they will have all the skills to enable them to survive — you’ve got me cheering for them which is what you need a reader to be doing.
The ones who are really tearing their hair out are those who know only that they disappeared.
Good setup. Intriguing situation. Lots of interesting stuff ahead, I’m sure.
They’ve been here for quite a while. See earlier snippets.
I’m sure they’ll find something for a diplomat to do. It’s just a matter of time. 🙂
Or she’ll find something herself.
Diplomats typically have those “other” skills that can either be really, really useful or utterly useless.
Well, she’s a diplomat from a relatively primitive planet.
Interesting snippet. It makes me wonder how they got there and curious about what lies ahead. Low gravity for one of the characters can create interesting twists.
They still don’t know how they got there–but they’ll figure it out soon.
I hope they have the skills necessary, and be able to put them to good use. Wonder what Madame Irela will have to add? Nice 8!
Thank you.
Between them– do they have the skills to survive? I sure hope so. 🙂
For how long?
Good to see some cooperation 🙂
They pretty well have to.
What *can* a diplomat do?! Great 8! 😀
Oh, she’ll be useful.
I love it when characters are forced to cooperate. Makes for lots of great tension and conflict. Great snippet!
Helps that they had a month stranded in space before the suddenly found themselves here.
We good a good look at the growing complexity of their group and situation. Excellent choice in snippet.
I’m not really choosing snippets, just doing this scene in order. May start picking snippets from my published books when I finish this.
I like how they they are assessing each other and how they can best contribute to their survival. Good eight, Sue Ann. 🙂
They’ve been thrown into a situation where they have to cooperate to survive.
