Welcome back to Six Sentence Sunday. I’m still posting from War’s End, where Coralie has found herself, her baby and her dog unexpectedly on a strange planet. Her dog has just led her to the pilot of the courier spaceship they were on. The pilot is speaking, and he has warned Coralie that the vines holding him to the fallen tree trunk are very sticky.
“If I’d had the sense to keep still, I don’t think they’d have ensnared me so badly, but no, I had to grab them and try to pull them away. Just don’t laugh at me.”
Coralie studied him, trying to control the betraying twitch at the corner of her mouth. “Maybe there’s something that would dissolve it in Ginger’s kit,” she suggested. “Otherwise we’ll have to find some way to cut you free.”
“The kit’s there,” Kelty said, nodding toward the case.
But Kelty doesn’t know what’s inside the kit.

I feel better knowing he got himself tangled. I thought the vines were actively ensnaring him! I love the “twitch” of humor in this six. ;c)
They’re not the only nasty in this ecosystem! But I’m basing this on the survival shorts we get regularly on PBS up here, and one of the 7 steps is play. A sense of humor can be vital to survival.
Like Sarah, I’d also thought the vines were being somehow malicious. It’s good to know otherwise – unless you’re about to pull the rug out from under us! Great six – I love how you put across his ruefulness at how he’s got himself trapped.
Malicious? No. Hungry? Yes. He’d have had some real problems — probably more than he realizes — if he’d been all alone. But as he will say later, he’s not a wilderness type, and prefers machines to people or animals. More predictable.
Well, I want to know what’s in that kit! Nice little mystery going on here.
It’s Ginger’s medical kit, and she was prepared for Coralie going into labor. (Which she obviously did, about a month ago. They’d been stranded in space for a while before the abrupt transition to jungle.)
Love the hint of humor and any dying to know what’s in the kit!
For that we need Ginger.
Seems he’s a bit embarrassed. I do hope Coralie has some ideas. And know that you’ve hinted the kit is OB oriented, I’m more than curious to see how they get Kelty free! Fun six this week.
I’m giving away only what people who’ve read to this point would know.
Ah ha, so the vines weren’t out to get him (at least consciously so to speak!). This story really stays with me, can’t wait to keep reading. Terrific six!
Well, I’m looking for a beta reader for the whole trilogy.
I’d like to know what’s in the kit myself. Nice how you write about a kit and the character doesn’t even know what’s inside. Nice six!
It actually belongs to Ginger; Kelty had it only because he’d just added the survival gear.
Can’t wait to find out what’s in that kit! Should be interesting. So those vines are kind of like quicksand…the more you struggle and try to get free the more stuck you become.
Quicksand’s a good analogy.
I can’t wait to see what happens and what is in the kit 🙂 Great six!
Thanks.
What a sticky situation! OK, yeah there’s a reason I don’t write comedy. Great share!
Thanks. At least Coralie’s trying not to laugh.
I’m sure this will be a good bonding (cough) experience for them! 🙂
Ouch! It hasn’t been in the six sentences, but they’d been stuck together on a small spacecraft for a month before this unexpected transition, so they’re already bonded..
I want to know what’s in that kit. lol Great six to leave us wanting more. 🙂
Everybody wants to know what’s in the kit. Well, you’ll all have to wait a couple of weeks.
I am curious what is in that kit now 😉 lovely touch of humor to this too!
